Charlotte Holt is a multi-disciplinary artist working across sculpture, painting, curating, and writing.
Through a contrast of inanity and reality, the human condition is recognised for its inconsistent and capricious nature. An examination into our relationship to artwork through different sensorial elements; the work often invites the viewer to interact through touch or smell. Soft saccharine tones clash with the touch of harsh textures, sweet smells engage with vulnerability in a sickly but inquisitive attraction. Writings are confessional and sometimes exposing, offering a hesitance to relatability and a dissonance conflicting the trivial and the childish. Compositional elements of painting create a set discourse between what can or cannot be controlled, through form and colour.
Holt’s critical practice aims to open conversations surrounding the critique of traditional gallery display styles, challenge the curatorial norms of the historic arts institution and display art in contextually relevant environments. She believes artworks should be situated in consideration to their surroundings.
