Ruby Ferguson is a painter

Ruby Ferguson is an oil painter mainly interested in mixing her own everyday in abstract colour. These are often mundane household items (for example a cover of an old recipe book, a dated ornament or tablecloth). Working within a variety of mediums she experiments with colours, composition and layering. Keeping a balance of controlled mark making and spontaneity is important. This allows an element of play while creating. Although for Ruby these pieces are a homage to the value of the everyday, the process often renders the original items as unrecognisable to a viewer. What is still hopefully conveyed is an appreciation for the materials themselves as Ruby continues to refine her practice while staying inquisitive and experimental.
